Whether you’re just venturing into the world of genealogy or you’re an experienced researcher into family history, you will benefit from an all-day workshop being held next month at Knox United Church in Brandon.
The Southwest Branch of the Manitoba Genealogical Society is hosting “The Nuts and Bolts of Genealogy” from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Saturday, April 18, followed by a Heritage Dinner.
Workshop speakers include presenters from both Winnipeg and Brandon.
Elizabeth Briggs will present two workshops — “Ethics and Legalities of Genealogy” and “These are our Ancestors: Writing our Family History” — while Sheila Shearer will present “The Confident Beginner: I’ve Got Started … Now What?”
Gord McBean will discuss “Using Technology in our Genealogical Research,” and Christy Henry will delve into “Archiving/Preserving Pictures and Genealogical Documents.”
Registration for the workshop is $45 before April 1 or $50 after that date; spouses may attend at half-price. Lunch and nutrition breaks are included. Advanced registration is required.
Registration, book displays and coffee will commence at 8:30 a.m.
The Heritage Dinner is an annual event of the Southwest Branch — a time for members and guests to enjoy a delicious meal and a keynote speaker.
Oriole Vane Veldhuis will be speaking about “Family Secrets.”
She is well known in this area as the researcher of her great-grandmother’s story and has published a book, “For Elise: Unveiling the Forgotten Woman on the Criddle Homestead.”
Cost for the Heritage Dinner is $25 per person.
It is possible to attend both the workshop and Heritage Dinner or just one or the other as they are priced separately.
