RIVERS — History was made in Rivers on Saturday when an epic wrestling battle brought the house down at the Riverdale Community Centre.
Canadian Wrestling’s Elite unleashed mayhem that included tag-team action, a hardcore event and a championship match. Audience participation was required with the drama spilling out into the crowd. Wrestlers screamed for the crowd’s enthusiasm and in some cases got in their faces when things didn’t go their way.

A tag-team match featured some furious action.
There was a method to the mayhem’s madness, as it was all in the name of charity and returning to live events for CWE. This was a fundraiser for the Rivers/Daly Fire Department, as well as a few other charities, said fire Chief Richard Brown.
All the ticket sales went to the firefighters. The Rivers Legion was also on hand running a bar. The Lions Club was also running a canteen to raise funds for a local boy who is undergoing cancer treatment.
Brown said it’s a good trio of organizations with good causes.

Saturday’s show got off to a deranged start when Samuel crawled into the ring.
Brown has been a longtime fan of CWE and asked them to come out and put on a show, said owner Richard Warren, who wrestles under the name "Hotshot" Danny Duggan.
"We love doing events like this," Warren said. "This is a passion for us. So when we are able to help people in the communities we go to, that’s just icing on the cake for us."
It’s also a chance for all wrestlers to work on their moves and personalities in front of a mixed audience. Many of the wrestlers are young and just starting out and need to work on their acts in front of a variety of audiences, said event host Marty Goldstein.
