Community Leader Awards nominations now open

The nomination process is now open for The Brandon Sun’s Community Leader Awards.

This year’s awards process will echo last year’s inaugural effort, at which Brandonites were honoured in 11 categories that recognize areas of community leadership.

These include coach, teacher, courage/bravery, above and beyond, emergency service, service organization volunteer, volunteer, youth volunteer, environmental leader, community builder and seniors’ advocate.

As last year’s awards showed — although the majority of people who were recognized are well-known in the community — not everyone was aware of everything the winners actually do, Brandon Sun sales and marketing director Glen Parker said.

That lack of recognition, and the humble way the winners accepted their awards, speak to the fact that they’re in it for the right reasons, he said.

"They’re just people who love to be involved in the community and help others," he said.

The nomination process is wide open until it wraps up by the end of April, during which each submission will require a 250-word explanation as to why the person being nominated deserves recognition.

More information and the nomination form can be found online at brandonsun.com.

A selection committee will meet in early May and an awards ceremony will be held in mid-June celebrating the winners and runners-up.

The June 21 print edition will include a full rundown of the winners and runners-up.
