Opinion

I find it particularly disturbing that the Manitoba Nurses Union would choose to be so outright in its support of one political party. It is a disservice to Manitobans and the members who do not support the NDP.

One example of how particularly bizarre the relationship between the union and the NDP is, is that the MNU would not show any signs of support toward a nurse of 30-plus years who was not running for the NDP in the Kirkfield Park byelection.

When in government, the NDP silenced nurses and management treated nurses badly. It makes zero sense, and it would seem the union would simply want to pad its pocket by being best friends with the NDP. This type of political posturing by the union in aligning with the NDP does nothing to help Manitobans.

The PCs and NDP are in a spiteful game and because of this, attaching oneself with the NDP distances the relationship between the union and the government of the day. I imagine so much more could be achieved only if there was less finger-pointing and trying to score political points.

The political games between the union, NDP and PCs are disgusting and it should stop for the interest of all Manitobans. Manitobans continue to suffer as a result of the continuous back and forth of poor governments.

I plead with the union to do better at representing all of its members and Manitobans so the best can be achieved. The strategy as it stands over the last few years by standing hip-to-hip only with the NDP is not serving Manitobans well at all.
