Can’t everyone just get along
I cannot for the life of me understand the culture of the Brandon firefighters as to why it is that they seem to eat their own when it comes to the last number of fire chiefs? They all rise from the ranks and then the moment they are promoted they become the enemy. I find the union to be way too political and at times seems to be doing the department a disservice. You should be not only proud of what you all do, but thankful for what you have. We are proud of the service you all provide us, but it has always upset me as to the union’s actions. I think most people would find it very difficult to believe that the city is out to get you over the last many different councils, mayors and city managers as seems to be what we are always hearing.
I support the facts
Re: all this noise and one-sided media coverage about a “union president” being fired. Does the position you hold mean anything or provide special protection? I would hope not. I would like to see the facts from both sides be made available before I make up my mind. Can employers discuss these things? A labour council rally? Really? Do they know something the rest of us don’t or is this just another political game to sway the public with scare tactics around the budget? I know of other ordinary people that have lost their jobs in Brandon ... where is the labour council rally for them?
Such a travesty
It has been nearly seven years since little Phoenix Sinclair was brutally murdered. An investigation into Child and Family Services actions was done, but the provincial government has never made the report public. I wonder why? Now the MGEU, on behalf of the social workers, does not want the inquiry to go ahead. Shame on all of you. Something went terribly wrong in the Phoenix case as well as a number of others around that same time. You are dealing with our children and we, the public, have a right to know the details about what has happened and what you are going to do to fix the problems. Trying to save yourselves does nothing to help the children.
Still enjoying Patsy performance
This is overdue, but just wanted to say how much we enjoyed the “Closer Walk With Patsy Cline” show produced by George Buri of 7 Ages. Katrina Plante did a wonderful job of Patsy Cline’s songs and the band was great — very professional! Also the backup singers were very good and the “commercials” — I’d forgotten those great commercials we used to hear on the radio from another era! Very well done. Cheers to all involved on stage and behind the scenes!
Low morale is everywhere
I just want to let the firefighters’ families know that they are not the only ones fighting low morale and safety issues. It seems to be everywhere within the city departments. The families are feeling it every day. I wish them luck in their fight. It doesn’t matter where you go the morale issue is rampant within this city organization and all sections and departments.
