Thanks for helping out
I just want to commend one of the local second-hand stores here in Brandon. I noticed recently that all week they have been having 25 cent sales and half prices and I believe that is to help the economy and help the less fortunate in our community. I just appreciate that and I wish more businesses would get on the bandwagon.
What does NDP spell?
We have an NDP mayor. We have an NDP university president. We have an NDP faculty association leadership. We have an NDP students union president. We have an NDP provincial government. What does NDP stand for? How about No Damn Plan!
Thanks for making our day
I wanted to give the City of Brandon a big “no thanks” for pulling up all the flowers at Rideau Park the week of my daughter’s wedding. We had a signed contract and this was done without notifying us — even more disappointing was their lack of caring. The happy part to this story was how Bernie Whetter of The Green Spot saved the day. Bernie delivered and set up the flowers for us the day of the wedding, and took them down for us after the ceremony. His floral arrangement was stunning and definitely made the wedding day memorable. Thanks, Green Spot!
Hope to see you out there
Kudos to Brandon West Progressive Conservative MLA Reg Helwer for supporting the BU students at the rally Monday morning. I am looking forward to seeing the rest of the local and neighbouring MLAs support their constituents at the next rally.
Advice for the BU administration
Leave the professors on strike until you get a long-term contract (at least seven years, preferably 10). By agreeing to a two-year contract and talk of another strike at that time, BU is doomed to close. Few parents are going to send their high school students to BU knowing that another strike in two years is inevitable. A university cannot survive without two years of freshmen students.
Future home of ACC
Did you happen to notice one of the signs of the BU rally in the picture on the front of Tuesday’s Brandon Sun? “Brandon University — Future Home of ACC.” There may be a lot of truth to that. Rest In Pieces, BU.
Helping Hands is also in need
Not to take anything away from Samaritan House and the great work that they do, I would also like the people to know that the Helping Hands Soup Kitchen is a separate entity from Samaritan House and is also desperately in need of donations of food and money and they could do with any help that they can get.
