Philipp Lauter racked up six kills, 10 blocks and five digs as the Brandon University Bobcats beat the Fraser Valley Cascades 3-1 (23-25, 25-16, 25-19, 25-17) in Canada West men’s volleyball action on Saturday in Abbotsford, B.C.
Max Brook had a match-high 13 kills for Brandon (11-7) while Brandonite Max Paddock posted 39 assists and 10 digs for Fraser Valley (4-16).
The Bobcats, who are tied for fifth with the UBC Thunderbirds, host the Saskatchewan Huskies (12-6) on Friday and Saturday.
The Bobcat women (0-18) had a bye week and return to play spoiler against the 7-11 Huskies, who are one win back of a tie for the eighth and final playoff spot.
In Edmonton, the BU basketball teams fell to the University of Alberta for the second night in a row.
Brandon Meiklejohn hit six three-pointers and scored 25 points as the Golden Bears (11-5) crushed the Bobcats 115-82. Jahmaal Gardner led Brandon (8-8) with 24 points.
In the women’s game, Emma Kary dropped 28 for the Pandas (13-3) in a 75-47 blowout over the Bobcats (0-16).
Faith Clearsky put up 14 points and went 9-for-9 from the free-throw line for Brandon, which stays on the road this week against the Mount Royal Cougars.
