The Neelin Spartans opened their semifinal on a 16-0 run and never looked back, beating the John Taylor Pipers 60-43 on Friday to reach the AAA provincial varsity girls’ basketball gold-medal game in Thompson.
Dani Black led the Spartans with 19 points and 13 rebounds while Madison Kwiatkowski put up 16 points and 20 boards.
The Spartans play the Beliveau Barracudas in today’s final at 1 p.m.
In the boys’ event, Neelin lost 93-70 to Winkler’s Garden Valley and will play for bronze against Elmwood today at 11 a.m.
Jeremy Slomiany put up 21 points for the Spartans, with Xander Eilers adding 12.
Nelson McIntyre beat Elmwood 84-80 in the other semifinal.
