The Brandon Wheat Kings have signed their first pick from the recent Western Hockey League draft.
Fourteen-year-old Jaxon Jacobson, who the club picked fifth overall, led the under-18 AAA Brandon Wheat Kings in scoring with 60 points despite still having a year of eligibility at the U15 level. In fact, he was 13 until Dec. 11.
The Wheat Kings host their annual prospects camp at J&G Homes Arena next weekend.
In other league news, Red Deer Rebels head coach Steve Konowalchuk resigned on Thursday with one year left on his contract. In two seasons with the Rebels, he compiled a regular season record of 86-36-3-3.
Assistant coach Ryan Colville will also not be returning after five seasons.
