Dustin Asham went 2-for-4 and drove in three runs as the Vincent Massey Vikings blasted the Crocus Plainsmen 14-3 Tuesday at Andrews Field to open the best-of-three city high school baseball final.
Asham homered and doubled for the Vikings, who will try to wrap up the city title, which doubles as the Zone 15 crown, today at Andrews Field at 5:30 p.m. Mitch Lyall pitched three innings of shutout ball for the win, scattering three hits, with three strikeouts and a walk.
Brett Hutchison took the loss, giving up four earned runs on eight hits and two walks in two innings, with three strikeouts. Justin Holder led the Plainsmen at the plate, going 1-for-3 with a run scored.
Meanwhile, Joel Baron had three hits and scored two runs as the Carberry Cougars beat the Rivers Rams 7-2 to advance to the Zone 7 final.
Daylon Creasy and Cory Billiaert combined to pitch a four-hitter, striking out 13 for the Cougars, who host the Minnedosa Chancellors in the zone final Thursday at 5 p.m.
