Brandon University is very close to hiring a new head coach for the Bobcats women’s basketball team.
After interviewing their final three applicants last week, the Brandon Sun has learned that the selection committee has voted on their choice of a candidate to replace Ritchie Jacobson, who has filled in as the Bobcats head coach on an interim basis for the past season and a half. The next step is finalizing a contract offer for the successful candidate.
Former Brandon Sun sports writer David Larkins, now of the Winnipeg Sun, first reported that the final three candidates on BU’s short list were University of Alberta assistant women’s coach Erin McAleenan, Ryerson University men’s assistant Fatih Akser and former Canadian national men’s team member Novell Thomas.
“We’re very close, but I can’t give you a day (for the announcement),” BU vice-president of administration and finance Scott Lamont said. “It could be tomorrow, it could be a week.”
