The RFNOW Cardinals overcame a 4-0 deficit to move to within one game of becoming Andrew Agencies Senior AA Baseball League champions.
Buddy Mayert singled home two runs to tie Game 2 of the best-of-five final with the GW Vacuum Truck Service Young Guns at 4-4 before Shayne MacGranachan provided some heroics in the bottom of the seventh on Tuesday at Sumner Field. MacGranachan led off the inning with a single and stole second base on the next pitch. Justin Funk tried to throw MacGranachan out at third on a ground ball hit by Joel Krentz, but the throw got away from the third baseman, allowing MacGranachan to score the game-winning run for a 5-4 victory and a 2-0 series lead.
Mayert went 2-for-3 with a run, stolen base and two RBI for the Cardinals, while MacGranachan was 2-for-3 with a pair of stolen bases. Krentz got the win on the mound for throwing three perfect innings in relief of starter Brody Pinkerton.
Sean Dryden was tagged for the loss in relief of Mitch Lyall, who was charged with four runs on five hits in 5 1/3 innings. Garrett Popplestone singled, doubled, stole and base and scored a run for the Young Guns, while Lyall went 2-for-2 at the dish and plated a pair.
The Cardinals will try to win the series tonight at Sumner Field at 6:30 p.m.
SOUTH WEST LEAGUE
Ty Paddock homered and finished the game with three RBI as the Oak River Dodgers forced a fifth and deciding game in the South West Baseball League final with a 10-4 win over the visiting Boissevain Centennials on Tuesday.
Chad Kilimnik went 3-for-4 with a pair of doubles and scored three times for Oak River, while Keenan Lewis crossed plate twice and Drew Birss drove in two runs. Paddock also threw six innings, allowing four runs on eight hits, to collect the win.
Zane Sawyer took the loss for Boissevain after surrendering six runs on 11 hits in 4 1/3 innings. Skylar Canada was 1-for-4 with two RBI for the Centennials, while Dawson Hole scored twice.
The series will be decided tonight in Boissevain, with Game 5 scheduled to start at 6:30 p.m.
The Pilot Mound Pilots took a 2-1 lead in their best-of-five Border Baseball League semifinal with a 4-3 home win over the Cartwright Twins. Cartwright will host Game 4 tonight at 6:30 p.m.
