Brandon’s Jared Jacobson is in the driver’s seat after the opening day of the 54th Grey Owl tournament at the Clear Lake Golf Course.
Jacobson shot a three-under-par 69 on Friday for a three-stroke clubhouse lead over fellow Brandonite Nolan Tutkaluk. Jacobson is a four-time winner of the Tamarack match-play tournament at Clear Lake, but is bidding for his first Grey Owl title. He carded five birdies — three of them in the first five holes — and a pair of bogeys in his round.
After beginning the day under clear conditions, Friday’s late starters finished their rounds in light rain. Some golfers have yet to tee off for their first rounds of the 36-hole event, while others are slated to finish up today.
Ken Mould of Winnipeg’s St. Charles club is bidding for his third straight senior title in the tournament, having opened with round of 2-over 74 on Friday.
