Virden product Wyatt Kalynuk has been named to the Big Ten Conference’s all-freshmen team.
The 20-year-old University of Wisconsin Badgers defenceman tied for the league lead with 18 points in 24 Big Ten games, and had 25 points in 37 games overall. Kalynuk, who was also given an honourable mention for the league’s all-star teams, led all defencemen in conference play with 15 assists.
Former Brandon Wheat Kings draft pick Ryan Lindgren, who was selected in the eighth round in 2013 but elected instead to play with the Minnesota Golden Gophers, was also given an honourable mention.
