The Vincent Massey Vikings are looking at becoming the first Brandon team to win a provincial high school urban soccer championship in Winnipeg today.
The Vikings exploded with second-half goals from Luk Kingdon, Alex Alvarado, Jamil Tahhan and Giovanni Benitez as they knocked off the Elmwood Giants 4-1 in Friday’s boys’ semifinals. Earlier in the day, Tahhan scored in regulation time on a penalty kick and Andriy Kozoriz supplied the winner in the penalty shootout as the Vikings slipped past the Dakota Lancers 2-1. Daniel Moss was in net for both victories.
Massey, the event’s fifth seed, will take on the second-ranked West Kildonan Wolverines in the provincial final at 3 p.m.
In the girls’ provincial tournament, the Neelin Spartans fell 7-0 to the top-seeded Dakota Lancers in the quarter-finals and then 2-0 to the MBCI Hawks in the consolation semifinals.
