Clark Whelpton went 3-for-4 with two RBI, and his RFNOW Cardinals went off in the first inning with seven runs to top the Altus Cubs 11-1 in Andrew Agencies Senior AA Baseball League action at Sumner Field on Wednesday.
Buddy Mayert was 2-for-4 with two runs for the Cards (10-3-1). Jeff Neufeld earned the win, allowing zero earned runs on six hits and striking out seven batters in six innings.
Derek Harris went 1-for-3 with a triple and scored the lone run for the Cubs (4-9), and was issued the loss after allowing the seven runs in the opening frame. He went two innings, giving up four hits and three walks.
Meanwhile in the Border league’s season finale, the Morden Mohawks (12-4) locked up second place with a 16-2 win over the visiting Cartwright Twins (9-7).
The South West Baseball League announced the schedule for its division finals, with Boissevain hosting Souris in the North Division’s opener today, while Virden will begin its best-of-five series in Oak River on July 24.
The best-of-three Santa Clara semifinals begin on Monday when Carberry visits Portage and July 24 when Neepawa hosts Plumas.
