Luke Whelpton pitched a one-hitter and four RFNOW Cardinals had two hits apiece as they beat the Fowler Hyundai Marlins 8-1 in Game 1 of their best-of-three Andrew Agencies Senior AA Baseball League semifinal at Andrews Field on Friday.
Whelpton allowed one unearned run on one hit and four walks while striking out eight.
Buddy Mayert and Shayne MacGranachan each went 2-for-4 and scored twice, Joel Krentz was 2-for-3 with three RBI and Chris Kennedy was 2-for-3 with a run scored and two stolen bases.
Devon Foord took the loss, allowing eight runs on six hits, one walk and two hit batters in 3 1/3 innings. Rob Wilson broke up the no-hitter in the fifth inning.
In the South West Baseball League, Zane Sawyer pitched a complete-game shutout to help the Boissevain Centennials top the Souris Cardinals 4-0 and win the South Division final 3-0.
Sawyer gave up five hits and two walks and struck out five batters.
Avery Kirkup took the loss, allowing four runs on five hits in 2 2/3 innings.
Boissevain did all its damage in the second inning as Jay Pringle, Josh Wood and Jordan Foote each drove in a run.
