Zach Whitecloud of Brandon scored two of Virden’s four third-period goals as the Oil Capitals came from behind to beat the Neepawa Natives 6-3 on Saturday in the Manitoba Junior Hockey League.
On Sunday, it was: Portage Terriers 10, Winnipeg Blues 6; OCN Blizzard 7, Selkirk Steelers 3; and Steinbach Pistons 4, Swan Valley Stampeders 1.
In Saturday’s other games, it was: Blizzard 4, Pistons 3; and Steelers 3, Stampeders 2 in a shootout.
In Virden, Whitecloud added an assist for a three-point night. Taylor Fisher had a goal and an assist, while Ben Williams of Souris, Dylan Thiessen and Owen Solecki also scored as the Oil Capitals (22-14-6) won their third game in a row.
Drake Lindsay scored two goals and set up Brayden Atkinson’s marker to put the Natives (11-29-2) up 3-2 going into the third period.
Virden goalie Cameron Pateman made 14 saves for the win, while Alex Henry stopped 30 shots for Neepawa.
Terriers 10 Blues 6
In Portage, Elkhorn’s Shawn Bowles scored two goals and set up two others for the league-leading Terriers (41-2-2), while his brother Brad had a goal and two assists.
Kamerin Nault had a goal and two assists for the second-place Blues (25-12-6).
Blizzard 7 Steelers 3
In Selkirk, Camacho Lathlin had two goals and an assist, while Russell’s Jordan Cullum and McCreary’s Rhett Law also scored for the Blizzard (14-2-3). Dallas Starodub had a goal and an assist for the Steelers (19-17-2).
Pistons 4 Stampeders 1
In Steinbach, Daniel Taillefer and Tyler Penner paced the Pistons (24-10-6) with a goal and an assist each. Braydon MacDonald replied for the Stampeders (17-17-5).
Blizzard 4 Pistons 3
In Steinbach, Law scored the winning goal on a power play, with seven seconds left in the third period.
Cullum scored twice for the Blizzard, while Brady Keeper netted OCN’s other goal and added two assists. Brody Claeys of Ste. Rose du Lac made 31 saves for the win in net.
Colin Baudry had a goal and an assist for the Pistons.
Steelers 3 Stampeders 2 (SO)
In Selkirk, Brady Bouchard scored the tying goal with 1:18 to play in the third period and Ty Kraus finished the Steelers’ comeback with the only goal of the shootout.
Dallas Starodub also scored for Selkirk, while Jordan Valentino notched the Swan Valley goals. Stampeders netminder Graham Hunt made 37 saves, while Teegan Sacher made only 23 stops for the Steelers but was perfect in the shootout.
