Ridly Greig had a goal and an assist as the Canadian men’s under-18 hockey team opened the Gretzky Hlinka Cup with a 6-0 win over Finland on Monday in Breclav, Czech Republic.
The Brandon Wheat Kings forward set up Will Cuylle’s first-period goal that gave Canada a 2-0 lead before netting an unassisted marker in the middle frame. Cole Perfetti and Seth Jarvis both scored twice for Canada, while Tristan Lennox stopped all 17 shots he faced in net.
Joel Blomqvist made 28 saves for Finland.
The Canadians, who also feature Brandon defenceman Daemon Hunt of the Moose Jaw Warriors, will take on Switzerland today. The Swiss fell 4-3 in a shootout to the Czech Republic in their opener.
