December has been unseasonably warm. Thursday saw 18 temperature records set across the province. McCreary, northwest of Brandon, was among those record-setters with a high of 10.6 C that smashed its record of 7.5 C set in 1989. A rural minister has been left scratching his head over who would want to shoot out the window of his church. Broken glass littered the sanctuary and bullets were lodged in the frame of a door. “It was very disturbing for church members when they arrived on the Sunday morning to find this had happened,” said Harvey Hurren, Brandon Hills United Church minister. There are no suspects and Blue Hills RCMP members are looking for information.

Austin Wagner didn’t take long to make up for a turnover in overtime. The Regina Pats forward gave up a terrific chance to Brandon Wheat Kings forward Nolan Patrick and scored not long after for a 2-1 victory at Westman Place on Friday. The winning goal came 47 seconds into the overtime, the first Brandon loss of the Western Hockey League season in the three-on-three format.
