The loss, estimated by Cohoe at $50,000, included six Holstein milk cows, 21 calves and a bull, as well as feed, milking equipment and two stacks of baled straw.

The province has appointed new magistrates for two western Manitoba communities. Lauren Somersall was named to the post in Souris, while Greg Vincent will serve Hamiota.

TWENTY YEARS AGO

The Canadian flag at CFB Shilo’s front gates flew at half mast today as the grieving military community banded together to support the families of local soldiers involved in a fatal collision in Afghanistan. Cpl. Paul Davis, originally of Bridgewater, N.S., was killed and six other Shilo soldiers injured — two of them seriously — when a light-armoured vehicle collided with a taxi and rolled a few kilometres west of Kandahar’s city limits. Master-Cpl. Timothy Wilson of Grande Prairie, Alta., and Pte. Miguel Chavez, originally of San Salvador, El Salvador, were seriously injured in the collision. Other injured soldiers are Dauphin native Pte. Nathan Justice, Pte. Mark Taylor of Prince Rupert, B.C., Pte. Thomas Wong of Edmonton and Sgt. Darren Haggerty of London, Ont.
