Two of the largest breeders of Simmental cattle in Manitoba, Clements Bar C Ranch of Rossburn and Homecrest Farms of Brandon, put their cattle together for a sale at the Keystone Centre. Seventy-four head of cattle brought $61,950 for an average of $837.16 each.
The provincial government lifted its freeze on the wholesale price of gasoline last night. Gasoline prices in Brandon range from 70-75 cents per gallon at present.

TWENTY YEARS AGO
A lack of manpower will delay the installation of Brandon’s first two emergency sirens, according to the city’s emergency co-ordinator. “We’ve had a bit of a glitch,” Brian Kayes said.“The city electricians who were going to do the work have got another thing they’ve got to work on, so this is going to be delayed a bit longer.” Kayes said the electricians will be busy working on 911 call centre equipment and won’t be available to install the sirens. He added that the winter weather will likely make it too costly to install the sirens this year, and the project will have to wait until the snow melts.
TEN YEARS AGO
An influx of Syrian refugees will arrive in Manitoba before the end of the year, as part of the federal government’s promise to bring 25,000 to Canada before 2016. The province has told the federal government that it can accommodate 1,500 to 2,000 refugees before Christmas, which translates to around 350 to 400 families.
Dauphin-Swan River-Neepawa MP Robert Sopuck will take on the role of Wildlife Conservation and National Parks critic. Interim Conservative Leader Rona Ambrose announced the Opposition shadow cabinet and critics Friday morning.
