Laurie V. Smith of Brandon, J. Clifford Cory of Virden and Alex Whyte of Rivers are the three from western Manitoba who will be honoured along with six Winnipeg residents with the Golden Boy Good Citizenship award. The award carries with it the citation “for exemplifying a way of life that helps make Manitoba a better place for all in which to live.”

Manitoba Progressive Conservatives will select a new leader after Stuart Murray asked the party to hold a leadership convention. Murray garnered support from just 55 per cent of delegates after they were asked at the party’s annual meeting whether to hold a leadership convention.

TEN YEARS AGO
A rural Westman youth has been charged with a terrorism offence for allegedly using social media to encourage violence on behalf of the Islamic State. His arrest was the result of an investigation that involved the Canadian Security Intelligence Service and the RCMP’s National Security Enforcement Section.
Three potential sites for Brandon’s new outdoor sports facility were presented at an open house Thursday night. Proposed sites include land at the corner of First Street and Veterans Way, property north of Assiniboine Community College on the North Hill, and an area at the southeast corner of the city along 17th Street East.
