A delayed harvest has resulted in fewer entries to Manitoba’s largest cattle show and sale, Ag-Ex. Provincial Exhibition manager Henry Carroll says 1,280 head of livestock will be exhibited, down from last year’s 1,700-head record.
THIRTY YEARS AGO
The Keystone Centre was crammed to the rafters as the World Wrestling Federation brought its show to Brandon. The matches, the highlight of which was the six-man tag team featuring Diesel, Shawn Michaels and Bret (Hitman) Hart versus Yokozuna, Owen Hart and the British Bulldog, were being taped for the WWF’s “Monday Night Raw.”
TWENTY YEARS AGO
The town of Birtle said goodbye to one of its most distinguished citizens today, with the funeral of Order of Canada recipient Lt.-Col. Lockhart (Lockie) Fulton. He was 88 when he died Oct. 21. With his death, Canada lost an honoured hero, and one of the last remaining veteran commanders to survive D-Day and the battle of Normandy.
TEN YEARS AGO
While students across Manitoba got a chance to sleep in on Friday, their teachers spent the day getting schooled. More than 1,100 Westman teachers converged on Brandon yesterday, for the annual Learning Information for Teachers (LIFT) Conference hosted by the Brandon Teachers’ Association. The professional development day took place at 11 schools across the city and featured more than 50 workshops on a wide array of topics.
