George Buri, former chair of the Brandon School Division, has decided to seek the Manitoba Liberal Party nomination in Brandon West.
Buri was elected as a school trustee in 2006 and served as chair of the school division between 2008 and 2010. A Liberal Party news release says Buri would be considered a star candidate should he win the Liberal nomination.
"George is a very respected citizen in Brandon," Manitoba Liberal Party leader Jon Gerrard said. "I am so pleased that he is among a number of well-respected and accomplished people stepping forward as candidates to represent their constituents in the Legislature.
"Manitoba Liberals are strong on Brandon issues," Buri said in a release. "This is why I’m excited to represent Manitoba Liberal values at the Legislature. I look forward to bringing a strong voice to the Legislature. I feel at home with the Manitoba Liberals."
The nomination meeting for Brandon West will be Tuesday, April 19 at 7 p.m. at the Trails West Inn at 210-18th Street North.
