• “Beneath My Feet,” a Bachelor of Fine Arts thesis exhibition by Annette Henderson, is on until Saturday at the Glen P. Sutherland Gallery of Art. Henderson’s art focuses on experimentation with Manitoba’s wild clay. The gallery is open from 2 to 6 p.m., from Tuesday to Saturday.
• Students who are hard at work during a critical time in the semester will have a safe place to study well into the night during the Long Night Against Procrastination, starting Wednesday evening. Running from 7 p.m. until 2 a.m., the event hosted by the John E. Robbins Library offers food, study help and stress-busting activities for BU students.
• Col. Evelyn Kotzer, commander of 38 Canadian Brigade Group, will visit BU on Thursday for a conversation about the Army Reserve and how part-time citizen soldiers are helping Canada meet the challenges of a rapidly changing world. The talk will take place from 6:30 to 8 p.m. in the John E. Robbins Library.

• The Brandon University Jazz Festival will take place from Thursday to Saturday, featuring internationally renowned musicians and concerts that are open to the community. Showcase concerts will take place on Thursday and Friday at the Western Manitoba Centennial Auditorium, at 6:30 and 9:30 each evening. Several other concerts are planned throughout the event. Guest artists will include Queen Cora Coleman, who has played drums with both Prince and Beyoncé, as well as Juno nominees Shirantha Beddage and Erin Propp. Visit BUJazzFest.ca/concert-tickets for concert details and tickets.
• Parvin Ghafarian of the University of Northern British Columbia will be this week’s Science Seminar Series speaker. He will talk about weather measurement simulations in bodies of water with complicated topography during a talk that begins on Friday at 2:30 p.m., in Room 4-34 of the Brodie building. • After being closed on Monday for Louis Riel Day, Brandon University reopens today, although students are off for the rest of the week for winter break. Classes will resume on Feb. 23.
• In connection with ConnectED, a conference connecting students with industry, the alumni associations of BU and Assiniboine College will host the Beyond ConnectED mixer on Thursday from 4:30 to 6 p.m. at the Clarion Hotel. The come-and-go event will provide an opportunity for students, alumni and industry partners to continue their conversations and build their professional networks.
• The 16th Brandon University Clarinet Festival will take place on Feb. 28 and March 1, with guest artists joined by BU faculty, alumni and students for a weekend of performances and workshops. More information is available at Events.BrandonU.ca.

• Anishinaabe writer and University of Manitoba professor Niigaan Sinclair will present a Visual Art Speaker Series talk today. Sinclair’s topic will be “Why Indigenous Art and the Art Gallery Aren’t Friends.” The talk will take place from 11:30 a.m., to 12:30 p.m., in Room 2006 of Clark Hall.
• The Bobcats women’s soccer team is at the Canadian Collegiate Athletic Association national championship this week in Windsor, Ont. The Bobcats will play their quarter-final match against the top-ranked Aigles d’Ahuntsic on Wednesday at 4 p.m. Watch GoBobcats.ca this week for the latest information on how to see BU in action. The Bobcats basketball teams are at home this weekend for games against the University of Calgary (start times at 6 and 8 p.m. on Friday, and 5 and 7 p.m. on Saturday), while the volleyball teams visit the University of Saskatchewan.
• Brandon Edwards of Ducks Unlimited will speak at this week’s Science Seminar Series event on Friday. Edwards will talk about statistics, computer science and mathematics and their relationship to birds as he discusses his role as an ecological statistician. • A new academic year has arrived at Brandon University. New students will arrive on campus for Orientation today, beginning at 10:30 a.m., with campus tours, information sessions and entertainment for students. Fall semester classes will begin on Wednesday.
• Brandon University alumnus Mitch Taylor will discuss his career as a serial entrepreneur over 60 years on Sept. 9. He will share why a poor farm boy from southern Manitoba would take incredible risks, balancing the potential rewards against fear of failure. The talk will take place in Room 2006 of Clark Hall, beginning at 12:40 p.m.
• Homecoming will take place from Sept. 11-14, with music, sports, reunions, a student showcase and stargazing at the Gulliver Astronomical Observatory. One of the highlights of Homecoming is the annual concert, which will feature composer Nicole Lizée returning to her Prairie roots at BU on Sept. 12.
