Rookie centre Collin Murray-Boyles could return on Raptors road trip

John Chidley-Hill, The Canadian Press 4 minute read Tuesday, Mar. 17, 2026

TORONTO - A day later, and Collin Murray-Boyles was still salty that the veteran players on the Toronto Raptors had filled his car with popcorn.

And yes, it was buttered.

The rookie centre had his first full practice in three weeks on Tuesday, upgrading his status on the Raptors' personnel report to day to day before a five-game road trip out west. Murray-Boyles said that despite the claims of his older teammates, he'd be doing his rookie duties.

"Done everything. They complain I was being late to the games, coming out, but I was just trying to get better, you know?" said Murray-Boyles, tongue slightly in cheek. "But I guess working hard just gets you punished."

Brandon Ingram: ‘Time for things to start clicking’ for the Toronto Raptors

John Chidley-Hill, The Canadian Press 4 minute read Sunday, Mar. 15, 2026

TORONTO - It's time for the Toronto Raptors to make their drive to the playoffs.

Brandon Ingram had a game-high 34 points as Toronto upset the Detroit Pistons 119-108 on Sunday, the Raptors second win in a row after a 122-115 victory over the Phoenix Suns two days earlier. Ingram, who compiled 70 points in the two wins, said Toronto's improved play is right on schedule.

"I think it's around that time for things to start clicking defensively, offensively," said Ingram, acknowledging that the Raptors had lost four of their last five games. "We went through a little rough patch these previous games, but we found it.

"We had some conversations. Our communication on the floor has been good, and we've been able to fight back when we've been down and stay together. So, you know, it's building."

TORONTO - Jalen Green drove to the net with 45 seconds left to play, going for a layup that would pull his Phoenix Suns to within two points of the Toronto Raptors.

But Scottie Barnes, making his case for NBA Defensive Player of the Year, followed Green to the rim and swatted the ball off the backboard. The block led to an RJ Barrett dunk at the other end of the court to put Toronto up 116-110.

Barrett had 22 points, including nine in the fourth quarter, as the Raptors rallied past Phoenix 122-115 on Friday. It was Toronto's first victory over an opponent with a winning record since the Raptors beat the Oklahoma City Thunder 103-101 on Jan. 25, a span of 19 games.

"That was insane, it was crazy. I was literally right there," said Barrett of Barnes's clutch block. "But those are the type of plays you need to win.

Raptors say they will stand up for each other after Murray stands over Shead

John Chidley-Hill, The Canadian Press 3 minute read Friday, Mar. 13, 2026

TORONTO - The Toronto Raptors say they aren't going to let another team disrespect one of their players again.

Head coach Darko Rajakovic said the Raptors had a team meeting after New Orleans Pelicans guard Dejounte Murray stood over Jamal Shead, shouting at him, in the final minutes of Toronto's 122-111 loss on Wednesday. Murray earned a technical foul on the play but his three-pointer gave New Orleans an 18-point lead.

"After watching the film, I thought that we did not handle that situation the way we want, that we were supposed to," Rajakovic said before Friday's game against the Phoenix Suns. "Our players, they had conversations with each other. They know that that was not the true picture and image of our team.

"They all agreed, they know that it's never going to happen again."

Shai Gilgeous-Alexander scores 20 points for 127th straight game, breaking Wilt Chamberlain’s record

Cliff Brunt, The Associated Press 3 minute read Friday, Mar. 13, 2026

OKLAHOMA CITY (AP) — Shai Gilgeous-Alexander broke Wilt Chamberlain's record for consecutive games with 20 points or more, extending his streak to 127 on Thursday night.

The Oklahoma City Thunder guard hit two free throws in the third quarter against the Boston Celtics to reach 19 points. With the crowd on its feet, Gilgeous-Alexander pump-faked several times and drilled a jumper over Baylor Scheierman from beyond the free-throw line with 7:04 left in the period to push his total to 21.

He finished with 35 points and nine assists as the Thunder beat the Celtics 104-102.

Chamberlain's record had stood since 1963, and early on, it looked like Gilgeous-Alexander might struggle to break it. He didn't score until halfway through the first quarter, but he had 10 points by the end of the period and 17 at halftime.

NEW ORLEANS (AP) — Trey Murphy III scored 28 points, Dejounte Murray added 27 and the New Orleans Pelicans beat the Toronto Raptors 122-111 on Wednesday night, spoiling Brandon Ingram's return to the city where he played for six seasons.

Murray had his highest-scoring game since his return from a torn right Achilles tendon that sidelined him for more than a year. Zion Williamson added 19 points for the Pelicans, who have won seven of 10.

In his first game at New Orleans since he was traded to Toronto in February of last year, Ingram finished with 22 points. The 10-year veteran also surpassed 11,000 points for his career.

Immanuel Quickley scored 25 points for Toronto, which has lost six of eight. This defeat dropped the Raptors from fifth to seventh in the Eastern Conference, one-half game behind Orlando and Miami.

WINNIPEG — It took a curated assembly of elite talent to end the Vincent Massey Vikings’ dream.

The group of Brandon basketball players came together years ago, worked on their games each summer and felt they could do what no Wheat City high school team had done in more than two decades — reach the AAAA boys’ final four.

But a star-studded Churchill Bulldogs team proved far too much to handle on Thursday, running away with a 111-81 victory in the provincial quarterfinals at Fort Richmond Collegiate.

“When you got guys that play basketball 24/7, you know they’re eventually going to get theirs,” said Vikings coach Brett Nohr.

WINNIPEG — Brett Nohr has his first AAAA provincial victory, and the Vincent Massey Vikings sure had to earn it.

They dug themselves a double-digit hole and never put the game out of reach, but defended their way to a 73-64 win over the Garden City Gophers at Pembina Trails Collegiate on Thursday.

“It was good, I felt good not only for myself but for the kids, for (assistant coach) Derek (Barnett) and (Gil) Cheung, who’s been helping me,” Nohr said.

“It’s a group effort and our kids played hard. The kids who didn’t play, their emotions on the bench were good, they were excited to be here, they were helping their teammates out.”

WINNIPEG — Experience was everything on Thursday.

The Daniel McIntyre Maroons started the AAAA varsity girls’ basketball provincial game like they’d been there before, while the same couldn’t be said for the Crocus Plainsmen.

Two bad stretches spelled the end of the season for the Plainsmen in a 65-49 play-in round loss at Vincent Massey Collegiate.

“Our collective basketball games in our … career is certainly lower than theirs,” Hartman said of the Winnipeg school, adding his team showed grit to stay in it after a slow start.

WINNIPEG — A small slighting might be just what the Vincent Massey Vikings needed this week.

Ranked No. 4 in AAAA varsity boys’ basketball at the end of the season, the Vikings were dropped to sixth without losing a game since Feb. 20, and take on the wildcard Garden City Gophers to open provincials at Pembina Trails Collegiate today at 5:30 p.m.

The drop is justifiable, and a result of upsets in Winnipeg zone championships, and it isn’t fazing the Vikings, who haven’t played a top-end team in three weeks and now get a tune-up before their biggest games of the year.

“I like it. I like being on the opposite side of the No. 1 seed (Dakota Lancers),” said senior forward Callum Brosseau. “It gives us a great chance to test out Churchill.
