A roughly 25-kilometre fitness challenge in Ninette is actually just the warm-up for some of the 35 soldiers from CFB Shilo who will be participating in the Mountain Man event in Alberta later this month.
The gauntlet begins at 7 a.m. Wednesday under scorching heat and is expected to last until 2 p.m.
It begins with a 14.8-kilometre run, followed by a 1.9-kilometre canoe portage, a 6.2-kilometre paddle on Pelican Lake and then a final 3-kilometre run while strapped with a 35 lb backpack for the entire course.
Motorists are advised to be careful while travelling through the area.
