A rural couple near Ile Des Chenes was sitting outside on their deck when lightning struck their home this morning, setting it on fire.

The retired dairy farmers were outdoors at about 9 a.m. when there was an ear-jarring bang and lightning hit their farmhouse, about 30 kilometres south of Winnipeg.

“The wife was deaf for awhile,” said Walter Van Gorp. “We were lucky it didn’t happen at night.”
