Premier Greg Selinger was in town today to snip the ribbon on the brand-new Worker’s Compensation Board office in Brandon.
The office will service workers and employers located in Brandon and surrounding areas.
In the past, people have had to travel to Winnipeg or Winnipeg staff traveled to Brandon, but now things like claim adjudication, case management, healthcare examination and SAFE Work services will be provided from the new Brandon office.
The office has brought on board 15 employees — including 12 who are Brandon residents — since hiring a regional director in May.
City representatives said the new office will be a boon to local employers.
"As a regional centre, the city of Brandon will benefit greatly from the local access to services that the new WCB office will provide," said Murray Blight, deputy mayor of Brandon. "Employers and workers in the area will be able to take advantage of the convenience of the office."
