Railway repairs to close several streets

Traffic on two of Brandon's busiest streets will be disrupted for a few days in August, as crews repair CN rail crossings.

This, while the very busy Veterans Way route will also be closed at the CP rail crossing.

The rail crossing on the low road to Shilo will be closed Aug. 7 — and isn't expected to re-open until Oct. 31. Drivers will still be allowed local access between First Street and the rail crossing, but there will no longer be a through road connecting with Brandon's eastern bypass route, nor access to Shillo.

Traffic will be detoured all the way south to Richmond Avenue, then across to the bypass road, and back up to Veterans Way for the three-month closure.

First up, though, will be the complete closure of 18th Street, near Park Avenue, which will be shut down on Sunday and Monday of this coming weekend, the August long.

Most traffic will be detoured to 26th Street during those two days, Aug. 5 and 6, although heavy trucks will be sent over to First Street.

The very next weekend, First Street will be shut down, near Van Horne Avenue. It's expected to close sunday, Aug. 12 until Wednesday, Aug. 15.

Cars will have to detour to Sixth Street, while heavy truck traffic will be diverted to 17th Street East. This will also affect the ongoing Veterans Way detour.

Meanwhile, Rosser Avenue near downtown will stay closed for a while longer than anticipated, as sewer and water work continues. Rosser, which was closed last Monday at 13th Street, was supposed to re-open today. However, the city now says it won't open until Tuesday, Aug. 7.
