A would-be robber with a fake gun and a utility knife tried to hold up a Brandon business early this morning, but ended up fleeing empty-handed.

Police were summoned by a hold-up alarm to the business, in the 3500-block of Victoria Avenue, at around 1 a.m.

The culprit had fled by the time officers arrived, but they were told that a Caucasian male wearing a blue balaclava had gone over the counter of the business, brandishing the fake gun and the knife, and demanded cash.

The clerk refused, and the robber ran off.

Police say they haven’t made any arrests, and continue to investigate.
