Police in Killarney yesterday may have thought they were rushing into a burning home to save its occupants, but the reality was a little more surreal.
After bursting through the open door and following smoke down to the basement, officers instead found a man on a motorcycle, revving the engine and spinning its tires to the point that the basement carpet had caught on fire.
A 48-year-old resident of the home was arrested and remanded into custody on charges of uttering threats, mischief, breach of recognizance and resisting a peace officer.
The home did suffer some smoke damage.
