Lead head

I washed my hair last night and went to bed and could hardly get my head off the pillow this morning. It was so hard to lift my head and I just got thinking it must be the lead in the city water!

Panic not necessary

I lived in an area of Brandon for 20 years that had lead pipes and today at 63, I still feel fine. My IQ might even be higher than most. This whole lead pipe news is totally blown out of proportion. Hopefully people don’t overreact as the plumbers and water purification people appear to already be sharpening their knives. There has been no reports of death caused by lead poisoning so hold on to your wallets.

Cheapskates!

For the city to just offer to pay half of the costs of removing their pipe from the water main to your property line is ludicrous. Then you get to pay all of the costs of taking out the poisonous pipe the rest of the way into your house. This is really what citizens historically pay taxes for — the basic safety and security of the city and its people. And right now, this council is failing on all counts. What about people with a low or fixed income? Not a peep about what the city will do to help them out. If this is as serious as we’re being led to believe it is, the city has to have a much better and fairer program in place.

Don’t give up hope

Just because Brandon wasn’t in the first choice of new places for WestJet, doesn’t mean we won’t be chosen later. It’s all about business. They haven’t said flat-out “no” to us and I think the city has made a good argument for why we would use the planes — if they were flying to Calgary and Toronto. Let’s just keep thinking positively and hope the city’s development office keeps making nice with WestJet in preparation for the next round of announcements in a few months. And then for the next round after that. And so on.

Being force fed

It is evident that amalgamation is not popular with many municipalities. Nevertheless, we have the government of Manitoba prepared to stomp their hobnailed boots onto the doorsteps of municipalities that do not want to be assimilated into oblivion. They are literally biting the very hand(s) that feeds them.

Waiting in line

I am a senior citizen with a disability. Am I the only one who finds it annoying having to wait to use handicap washroom facilities in restaurants, and out walks a young and able body person, or am I missing something?

Get with the program

What a surprise. I see there are still people complaining about what a hardship it is to move their garbage containers a few feet off city property. You people have had ample warning to get with the program, and now it is time to do the right thing, or pay the fine that comes with breaking the bylaw. By not complying you are being a burden on the taxpayer who does comply. Garbage collection would take less time if garbage was only put out when there was a need. Stop making up excuses and do your part and help ease the tax bill.
