Thanks to a stranger
Big thanks to the person who turned in my green purse to customer service at Walmart on the morning of Tuesday, Oct. 18. Thanks for your honesty. I would have liked to meet you.
Great photo of Hydro workers
What a fantastic front page photo that Tim Smith took of the Hydro men working on the Valleyview area hydro poles. Amazing amount of tools and equipment they carry with them. Thank you, gentlemen.
Thanks for keeping an eye on me
A big thank you to the lady in the small white car who saw that my motorcycle was not able to stop in time to allow you the right-of-way on Oct. 21 at 5:20 p.m. at the 34th Street and Richmond Avenue traffic circle. I did, in fact, try to stop for you, but slid sideways twice after encountering loose gravel. Thank you again for your vigilance and allowing me to proceed ahead of you. I wish more drivers were as alert and as courteous as you are.
Be prepared for a bumpy ride
It’s too bad it is not the time of year to nominate CAA’s worst road in Manitoba. A few years ago, Manitoba Infrastructure resurfaced Victoria Avenue in Brandon. However, they apparently ran out of money or asphalt to do the 1,000 feet of road in front of the Nissan dealership. This stretch is full of potholes and broken pavement. It is so bad that someone will soon break a wheel off their vehicle if they hit one of these potholes. Who is responsible for fixing this mess, the city or province? Does our MLA for Brandon West drive on this road or is he blind to see this mess? Sadly, if it is up to the province to fix it, it will take years as the Pallister government will have to conduct a review as they do not seem to act on obvious things that need fixing until we have another serious accident. I will definitely be doing a review on my vote decision next election.
Cross at your own risk
I would like to know when the city is going to get after the CPR for some of these railway crossings. The one on 26th Street between Park Avenue and Willowdale Crescent is terrible. It will wreck the steering on your car. They should be made to fix it. It is unbelievable and there is a lot of traffic on that street.
How long does it take to change a light bulb?
I, like a former writer, reported a burnt-out street light. I also called several times, each time being told to phone a different work section. There must be a standard answer the operator is told to say: “You must realize when one street light is replaced there is another one somewhere else that needs to be done.” It was almost a year before the light was replaced. There certainly must have been a lot of other lights to be replaced.
