Just what we need
It’s wonderful that Brandon will get a new taxpayer’s group. Just the other day, I was reflecting on how we don’t have enough vocal angry people who expect public services but don’t want to pay for them. I’m looking forward to hearing the platitudes about millions in non-specified efficiencies to be found in all facets of government.
Do some good and stop the whining already!
To “Why Can’t We Have One, Too?” in the Sept 19 Sound Off. You and the other three or four people who are always writing into the paper — stop boo-hooing about Brandon having a casino already! What part of no do you not understand? The people of Brandon have said no twice already and yet you keep caterwauling. I think if you feel left out because Winnipeg has two casinos, then you should all just pack your little bags and move to Winnipeg. Then you would immediately have the choice of which of the two casinos you want to blow your money. Brandon needs a casino like it needs another high-water event. Why not get your brains wrapped around doing something good for our Brandon citizens? If you have time to go to a casino, maybe you have time to volunteer somewhere.
How low is too low?
Recently young men’s pant fashions feature a low rise so that the waist band rests just above the pubic region with the result that the waist band of their underwear is clearly visible. Most people assume that men wear underwear and if they don’t, most people do not want to know. This summer, I was exposed to the most extreme example of this fad. A male uniformed employee at a local convenience store was standing outside with his back to me, enjoying his smoke-break. Not only was the waistband of his jockey shorts clearly visible but his entire rear end: the waist band of his pants was riding below his buttocks. I am glad he did not turn around. If stores can refuse to serve any male not wearing a top and shoes, stores should also require that their employees dress in an appropriate manner. There ought to be a law!
If they are not punished, what will they have learned?
Regarding the Virden hardware store and 4-plex fire set on purpose just recently. The youths of today! Where were their parents? Why were they out roaming the streets looking for trouble? This happened at 3:30 a.m. Seeing as they are underage, their names will not be published. It is time they were. If they, at a young age can do these crimes they must be held responsible. What has gone wrong with this generation with setting fires and slashing tires? Senseless! They must start paying for their crimes to slow down these terrible disasters and make them work or pay.
Sometimes you just have to say no
I don’t think that clerks at grocery stores should be required to donate to various charities. In some cases it serves only as an embarrassment when one has to decline.
Keep up the good work
Wow! Thank you Brandon for having First Street bridge finally fixed. It is really nice. Also a big thank you to the City of Brandon for all of the humongous flower pots and plants that are all along 18th Street and at the cemetery and all downtown. They are simply beautiful and just lovely.
