Hey there, time traveller!

Sean Common almost single-handedly kicked the Brandon Barbarians into sole possession of second place in Rugby Manitoba’s Division 1 at John Reilly Field on Saturday.
Common led the Barbarians to a 54-42 win over last season’s champions, the University of Manitoba Wombats, scoring one try and kicking six conversions, three penalties and one drop-kick.
“We didn’t play that well and our defense was atrocious,” team president Jon Fitzpatrick said. “We just didn’t have any energy. (Sean’s) boot was the difference between us winning and losing that game.”
The drop kick wasn’t cheap either, as Fitzpatrick said Common made a long strike to add the three points.
“He’s been using that as an option when there is nothing else really going on and the one the weekend was a beautiful kick. It was probably 40 yards,” Fitzpatrick said.
Other scorers were: Liam Hammersley with two tries while Tom Gucake, Alun Howells and Sean Sarkonak each had one try.
With a game in hand, the Barbarians still have an opportunity to win the regular season title.
“We’re one point out of first place so everything is looking good right now,” Fitzpatrick said.
The Barbarians Division 2 team also played on Saturday, losing 45-17 to the Wombats.
Aaron Kaluzniak scored two tries while Sean Erickson had a try and a convert.
The Barbarians women’s team made short work of the Wombats, winning 62-12.
The Barbarians rugby club has four games left in the 2012 season, and will play two games next weekend in Brandon.
First, the Division 2 team will play the Wasps on Saturday and the Wanderers on Sunday, beginning at noon, with the Lady Barbarians to follow at 2 p.m. The Division 1 team will follow the women at 4 p.m., but will play the Wasps on Saturday and the Saracens on Sunday. All games are at Reilly Field.
