Layton Dornn opened the Victoria Inn High School Hockey Tournament in style Thursday night.

Dornn scored a pair of goals, with Ty Dornn and Taylor Maloney added singles as the Crocus Plainsmen won their tournament opener 4-2 over the Selkirk Royals at Kinsmen Arena. Michael Smiley and Mac Playford replied for Selkirk.

In Thursday’s other games, it was:

Neepawa 4 Garden Valley 1

Kyle McDonald, Bryson Kaye, Garett Rempel and Jesse Adams all found the back of the net for the Tigers. Austin Wiebe replied for the Zodiacs.

Carman 3 Massey 0

Brandon’s Vincent Massey Vikings couldn’t find a way to score in their opener. Colby Hennan, Mark Klassen and Jack Lotscher all netted goals for the Cougars.

Sanford 4 Dauphin 3 (OT)

Tanner Pouteau scored in overtime to lift the Sabres over the Clippers. Daniel Chartrand scored twice for Dauphin with Kyler Allard adding a single. Carson Warkentin, Steve Young and Fraser Mairrlees scored in regulation for Sanford.

Kenora 5 Pembina 4 (OT)

Rhyse Mandamin scored twice for Kenora, and Adam Vaughn netted the winner in overtime. Tyson Skead-Stevens and Chris Hrabec also scored for Kenora. Corey Messner, Jayden Buchanan, Griffen McLean and Kirby Bridges replied for Pembina.

Thursday’s other games between Virden and Dryden, Lorette and Red Lake, and Morden and Fort Frances were still in progress late last night.
