Friday was a tough day for Brandon’s Cassie Hawrysh, but she remained in the top 10 of the women’s world skeleton rankings.

The 28-year-old Neelin High School graduate raced to a 14th-place finish out of the 23 competitors who completed the World Cup race at the Königssee track in Germany. Hawyrsh, a rookie in the World Cup — the top level of the four international circuits — raced to a combined two-run time of one minute 49.60 seconds, finishing 2.09 seconds behind gold medallist Noelle Pikus-Pace of the United States. After the race, Hawrysh dropped to ninth in the world rankings with 1,080 points.

Meanwhile, Russell native Jon Montgomery, 33, will race in the World Cup men’s skeleton event today at Königssee. Montgomery, the 2010 gold medallist in the Vancouver Olympics, is currently ranked 13th in the world with 696 points.
