Virden’s Karissa Kirkup has been named the Manitoba Female Midget Hockey League player of the week.
The Westman Wildcats forward led her team with seven points (one goal, six assists) to help the team earn three straight victories and move into second place. A Grade 12 student at Virden Collegiate and the Wildcats’ captain, Kirkup leads the team in scoring with 46 points in 27 games. Kirkup, who recently accepted a full NCAA scholarship to play for the University of Maine next season, helped lead Manitoba to a silver medal at the Canadian under-18 women’s hockey championship last month in Dawson Creek, B.C.
