Former Virden Oil Capitals forward Artsiom Kalashnikov has moved west and will spend this winter playing hockey with the University of Lethbridge Pronghorns.
Kalashnikov spent his 20-year-old season with the Manitoba Junior Hockey League club and finished second on the team in scoring with 52 points (20 goals and 32 assists). He had a solid playoff as well, netting five goals and setting up seven more to lead the Oil Caps in scoring with 12 points, although they fell to the Dauphin Kings in the Sher-Wood Division final.
Kalashnikov joins a young Pronghorn team that didn’t have any fifth-year players and only a pair in their fourth year last season. Lethbridge went 4-21-2-1 in the Canada West conference that year and begins pre-season play this weekend.
