Four Westman-raised female rugby players have been invited to one of two camps being held across Canada to find talent for the women’s national 15s team.

Amanda Williams, Emily Tuttosi and Jodie Hicks of Souris and Amanda Thornborough of Brandon will attend the camp in Shawnigan Lake, B.C., from April 14-18. Rugby Canada has invited 80 players to the camps, with 38 — including the Westmanites — at the western camp. The other 42 players will try out in Ontario later this month.

All four local players have CIS rugby experience, while Thornborough has represented Canada in international 15s and 7s rugby tournaments.

Thornborough and Canada won silver at the Women’s Rugby World Cup in 2014. Rugby Canada is now rebuilding for the 2017 team.
