Brandon Wheat Kings forward Darian Dziurzynski will face the music for his hit on Swift Current Broncos forward Andy Blanke late in Tuesday night’s 7-3 victory over the Broncos in Swift Current, Sask.
The Western Hockey League has suspended Dziurzynski for a length of time yet to be determined for the hit, which came with 44 seconds remaining to play in the third period.
Dziurzynski, who was given a charging major and a game misconduct on the play, will begin serving his suspension on Friday when the Wheat Kings host the Calgary Hitmen (7:30 p.m., Westman Place).
In other WHL news, the Spokane Chiefs have assigned 17-year-old forward Cody Nelson of Brandon to the Manitoba Junior Hockey League’s Portage Terriers.
Nelson, a former Wheat Kings prospect who was signed by Spokane last season, played three games with the Chiefs, picking up nine penalty minutes. His reassignment came one day after the Chiefs acquired forward Carter Proft from the Wheat Kings in exchange for a fifth-round WHL bantam draft pick.
