Several members of the Baldur Volunteer Fire Department took a little off the top on April 15 in support of the Canadian Cancer Society.

Taking up the challenge laid down by Baldur School students Larissa Van Damme and Ashley Watson, six members of the department said they would shave their heads if six members of the school community did.

Department volunteer Troy Sigvaldason set the bar high for his buzz, however, saying he would only lop off more than a decade’s worth of hair growth if donations hit $2,500.

The community responded with just shy of $6,000 in donations and, needless to say, Sigvaldason and six others from the department "braved the shave" for a good cause.

Making good on their promise, school principal Randy Hanson, teachers Josh Baker and Devin McClean and students Drew Dearsley, Tyler Parsonage and Ken Formaniuk also sported a buzz cut for the cause.
