One of the world’s heaviest, hardest-working bands, Napalm Death, will be visiting Brandon later this month.

After almost 30 years of relentless touring and recording, this legendary act is showing no signs of slowing down.

Napalm Death will be performing at The North Hill Inn Oct. 18 as they travel through Canada as part of their world tour supporting their 13th studio album, “Time Waits For No Slave.”

Submitted Napalm Death will be among the bands taking to the stage at The North Hill Inn on Oct. 18.

They will be joined by two Winnipeg acts Dissolution and Soul Killing Female, as well as Brandon heavy hitters Arctic Circle and Pornodeathgrind, in what may just be Brandon’s heaviest show ever.

The evenings festivities are being hosted by Project Mayhem Productions and Shawn Urquhart could not be happier.

“Napalm Death is one of the first really heavy bands I listened to,” Urquhart said. “I remember being 14 years old, playing video games and listening to the ‘Mortal Kombat’ soundtrack. That was my first exposure to Napalm Death. I can’t even believe they are coming here.”

Urquhart isn’t the only one excited.

“Napalm Death’s one-time drummer Mick Harris is the reason why I wanted to play music with blast beats in there,” said Arctic Circle drummer Jonathan Cloud.

“One winter all I listened to was N.D.’s ‘From Enslavement To Obliteration’ CD. Someone was silly enough to sell it to Jiffy’s, where it was quickly purchased and worshipped from that day forward.”

It may seem strange that a band of such calibre would be stopping in Brandon but Napalm Death bassist Shane Embury says the band had decided to play different markets this time around.

“To play smaller shows in Canada was very much a conscious decision on our part as we haven’t been there really for sometime and we always talk about a tour we did in ’93 with Brutal Truth where there were 13 dates I think, and how much fun that was,” he said.

“So we decided to really push the boat out and try and play as many shows as we could to make up for our long absence — I think it’s going to be fun!”

The success of this show will also ensure Brandon will be on the map as a great place for heavy musicians to stop during long tours.

“Brandon has gotten a really positive response from some of the bands that have come through in the past,” says Urquhart, “and we’ve already been getting some really good feelers for next year.”

Advance tickets for the Oct. 18 show are still available at Ms. Fitz Boutique, Senate Skate and Faders Music.

The show, which starts at 9 p.m., is sure to be a loud and heavy event of epic proportions.
