Michael Werier has been appointed to mediate the contract dispute at Brandon University, as it nears the end of its second week. Labour Minister Jennifer Howard made the appointment earlier today — the 13th day since the strike began.

The two sides are discussing how quickly they can begin the mediation process.

The BU Faculty Association called for a mediator last Friday after conciliation talks ended without a resolution to the strike.

BUFA spokesman Bill Paton told the Sun that it’s possible negotiations could begin as early as today.

"I’m telling our group to get ready to begin today, totally," Paton said.

Weirer is a partner in the Winnipeg law firm of D’Arcy & Deacon LLP, and according to the company website, works as an arbitrator/mediator and a civil litigator.
