WINNIPEG — If you didn’t get your fill of “Nutcracker” with the Brandon School of Dance’s fine production this past weekend, the Royal Winnipeg Ballet hopes you’ll hop on their bus as they “Bring Brandon” to their performance in Winnipeg.
After the success of its “Bring Brandon” initiative last year during the run of “Wonderland,” the RWB is offering Brandon residents free transportation to the Centennial Concert Hall to the matinee performance of “Nutcracker” at 2 p.m. on Dec. 28.
“We consider Brandon to be part of the RWB’s core audience. We want to celebrate that by making it as easy as possible for them to come to our shows when it is not possible for the RWB to go to them,” RWB executive director Jeff Herd said.
Besides the free transportation, the RWB is also offering a discount of 20 per cent off adult tickets. Children’s tickets are only $25, allowing the whole family to share in the holiday magic of this classic yuletide tale.
Wrapped in festive Canadian imagery and adorned with delightful ribbons of fantasy and fun, the RWB’s turn-of-the-century story is set in a stately mansion on Winnipeg’s Wellington Crescent where, after all the guests have left the grand dinner party, young Clara’s Christmas dream world comes to life.
The beloved cast of characters is back — dancing mice, the Sugar Plum Fairy, toy soldiers and a mischievous dessert-stealing bear. With its gorgeous Tchaikovsky score, this is sparkling holiday fun for the whole family.
Included with each ticket is a complimentary program. Be sure to check out the magical lobby with a chance to have your family captured in a seasonal photo booth. And you never know when that crafty bear Filbert might pop up. Hint: watch for him in the lobby before the show and at intermission.
All performances will be accompanied by the Winnipeg Symphony Orchestra, conducted by RWB music director Tadeusz Biernacki.
The role of adult Clara in “Nutcracker” will be performed by Amanda Green and Jo-Ann Sundermeier. Dancing the role of the Nutcracker Prince are RWB’s newest principal dancer Nurzhan Kulybaev, Harrison James and Dmitri Dovgoselets.
The glittery Sugar Plum Fairy will be brought to life by Serena Sandford and Carrie Broda, and the dark, mysterious Drosselmeier will be performed by Alexander Gamayunov and Thiago Dos Santos.
Deadline for the Bring Brandon offer is Thursday and seats are limited. To purchase tickets, call the RWB box office at 1-800-667-4792.
