The province has announced a review of Sunday shopping legislation and has asked for public input.
To address factors such as cross-border shopping, the Internet and consumer demands for more freedom of choice, the province is considering relaxing restrictions for Sunday shopping.
Labour Minister Jennifer Howard announced that a committee comprised of representatives of business and labour will be asked to review the issue and make recommendations to government. It is expected to report back within a few weeks.
The province has also asked Manitobans to make their views known on the controversial subject, setting a three-week deadline (May 11) for responses.
The Brandon Chamber of Commerce is holding a meeting on Tuesday at 9:30 a.m. at the chamber office — 1043 Rosser Ave. — for those retailers interested in participating in a discussion on the possible changes and impact for businesses.
