Thanks Reg for asking questions

Good on Reg Helwer for the questioning regarding the possible fast-track of monies for the Strand project. By no means am I Conservative, I have always been NDP, but this issue is worthy of close scrutiny. What other events do the BFMAS put on in a year other than the festival in the Keystone grounds? Do they really need the Strand at a great cost to three levels of government, courtesy of the taxpayers? All this mess is turning me off the NDP and I’m not happy about that!

How about some positive attitudes

Regarding the Sound Off in Tuesday’s paper, “Yards Before Airports.” It is obvious that this negative person has no intention of using air service from Brandon. As one who worked with petitions to get instrument landing and a user of any air service from Brandon, I find this attitude disturbing. This area desperately needs air service for many reasons. We need positive attitudes and usage, and have the facilities to do so.

Need to re-word ballot on casino

Though not a professional I have done a poll of voters on the issue of a casino in Brandon and have gleamed some positive results and noteworthy facts. The real voter question is not just yes or no, it is whose? If Brandon builds/owns and operates with local employees and the big money stays in Brandon, then the answer is yes. If a reserve builds and operates with reserve employees outside of Brandon and the money is divided among several other reserves outside of Brandon, then the vote is no.

Can’t turn back the hands of time

There is a lot of people that are worried about where Chief Frank Brown is taking his community. He is a traditional — not like that’s a problem. He has got to realize that we are in a different time and age. We can’t turn back the hands of time. I am Dakota. It’s about time we get in the program. He burned a lot of bridges by dropping out of DOTC. Now students that are upgrading have to suffer. Canupawakpa already has a bad name, now think of the students — they are the ones really feeling the pain.

Let’s move Brandon into the 21st century

Brandonites who have never lived anywhere else are myopic. Ever wonder why your taxes are so high? The city of Brandon has no real source of revenue. A casino would be a tourism draw and bring dollars to our city. If you do not like gambling, no one will ever force you to go. Have you heard the word “choice”? Do you ever buy lottery tickets — hello — gambling! I don’t gamble myself, but having a casino here would bring Brandon into the 21st century. I have lived elsewhere and I can assure you this city is about 15 years behind the times because of its ultra-conservatism. Stop looking to the past and get with future!
