Winnie the Pooh and his friends will visit the Western Manitoba Centennial Auditorium stage on Saturday as the theatre class from 7 Ages Productions presents the play of the same name.

The performers are all children and young adults from the theatre class, and they have been working all year to get the short play ready for the stage.

The story features Pooh and his friends, who are disturbed to learn that a new animal, a Kanga, has come to the Hundred Acre Wood. Frightened at first, the animals band together to approach Kanga and little Roo. Pooh eats too much honey and gets stuck temporarily in Rabbit’s doorway. Christopher Robin steps into the story just long enough to save the day.

Director George Buri is excited about the idea of children performing for children.

“Our young actors have worked very hard,” Buri said. “Many of them have travelled from Killarney every Friday night to be here. Parents have helped out not only by driving but also by creating some of the set pieces.”

Most of the costumes come from Harlequin Costumes in Winnipeg.

Musical accompaniment will be provided by local pianist Alanna Fast, with assistant director Mindy Choy, a music teacher in the Brandon School Division, helping out with the vocals.

The production is just over an hour in length plus a short intermission.

Showtime is 3 p.m. on Saturday. Ticket prices have been kept low at $6 plus a $2 handling fee for children under 12.
